9BUNTY AUR BABLI
No one can forget the crime comedy movie ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ which hit the screens in the year 2005. It is a film which, apart from starring the then rumored couple of Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherji in the lead roles, featured the most popular song of the last decade – Kajra Re, picturised on Aishwarya Rai. The film is still remembered as much for the iconic song as for its sleek storyline and brilliant performances by Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherji. The stupendous commercial as well as critical success of the movie helped Abhishek position himself as a bankable actor in the industry.
The audience loved the film and made it a blockbuster within no time. But many people don’t know that the shrewd and cunning character of Rakesh Trivedi, which was played by Abhishek Bachchan, first went to Hrithik Roshan. Yes, you read that right. Produced by Aditya Chopra and directed by Shaad Ali, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ was first offered to Hrithik Roshan. Yash Raj Films’ head honcho, Aditya Chopra, himself approached the actor to cast him in the movie, but Hrithik declined the offer. The reason behind him not accepting the film was that the actor felt that he would not be able to do justice to a character like Bunty. He then suggested Abhishek Bachchan’s name to the filmmaker. And rest, they say, is history. The film emerged one of the biggest blockbusters of 2005, sweeping many awards at various awards shows. We wonder if the film would have been the same had Hrithik been a part of it. But one thing is sure that Hrithik must have felt very bad for not being a part of such a wonderful and successful venture.
TRIVIA: Sushmita Sen was first considered for the iconic item number ‘Kajra Re’, which eventually went to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. . .
